Companies hiring for remote work every day
Half the industry has spent two years forcing people back to the office. And while that happens, these six companies keep hiring every day for remote work, and on top of that they look for profiles that need neither a degree nor prior experience.
They are ranked from the one asking least to the one paying best. And about number one, I will warn you now: it has a pay rule almost nobody else has, and it is going to surprise you.
Number 6 — Foundever: the easiest way in
It is by far the easiest entry point of the six.
They are one of the biggest customer service companies in the world. A lot of brands you know do not run their own customer service, they outsource it to companies like this one. And they have a hiring section dedicated entirely to work-from-home roles, with its own page for 38 countries.
What they ask to get in is very little: most roles need neither a degree nor experience, because they provide the training themselves, and it is paid.
Two requirements that catch people off guard
They will ask for two very specific things worth knowing beforehand. The first is that you have a closed, private room to work in, because you will be handling customer data and they have to comply with confidentiality rules. The second is that they will test your internet speed before hiring you.
The catch
It has the lowest pay of the six on this list.
Number 5 — Concentrix: the variety that opens another door
It ranks above the previous one for one very specific reason: variety.
A lot of people think these companies only hire for phone support, and that was true years ago, but not anymore. If you filter by remote, you get project management, software development, business analysis, and marketing roles, on top of the usual customer service ones.
The door that is worth a lot
You can start at the bottom, in an entry-level role with no experience, and move into a technical one without changing companies. The hardest jump that exists is going from a no-experience role to a qualified one, and from inside a company, with someone who already knows how you work, it is infinitely easier than sending résumés from the outside.
The catch
This applies to Foundever too: working in customer service is far more tiring than it sounds. You spend the day solving problems for people calling in angry, with per-call time targets and your computer monitored. Being remote does not make it relaxed, and it is better to know that before signing than after.
Number 4 — TELUS Digital: the back door into AI training
Its careers portal is split into three areas: one for customer service, similar to the previous two; another for digital solutions, with engineers, designers, and data scientists; and the third is a community dedicated entirely to artificial intelligence, with AI trainer and data annotator roles.
Why this matters
That work, evaluating model responses and labeling data, is what we cover in the best platforms to train AI comparison, and it is usually done as an independent worker, picking up loose tasks with no guarantee there will be more tomorrow. Here it is the same work, but inside a large company and with a contract behind it. For anyone who wants into that world but does not trust the platforms, this is the way.
The catch
The AI openings are the ones that move the most across their whole portal, because they depend on whatever projects they have signed at any given moment. Checking once is not enough: turn on alerts on their portal so they notify you when something in your field opens up.
Number 3 — BairesDev: international rates without leaving home
Here we change leagues completely.
Its model is different from everything above: it does not have its own product. What it does is hire developers and assign them to projects for companies in other markets, mostly American ones. You sign with BairesDev and they place you on one of their client's projects.
Where the upside is
In the money. Since the final invoice is paid by a company in another market, salaries sit well above the average where you live. It is one of the most direct ways there is to earn international rates without leaving home.
The honest part
It is the most debated company of the six, and I am not going to hide that. Its selection process has a reputation for being brutal, with several technical tests and interviews, and it rejects the vast majority of people who apply. If you look up reviews from people who have worked there, you will find all kinds: more than a thousand published ratings, split right down the middle, from people who say it was the best decision they ever made to people warning that the pace and oversight are very demanding. If you decide to apply, go in with the technical tests seriously prepared, because this is not something you improvise.
Number 2 — GitLab: the only public hiring handbook in the world
This company has something no other one has at all.
GitLab has no office anywhere in the world. From the newest hire to the leadership, everyone works remotely, with people spread across more than 60 countries. It is not a company that allows remote work, it simply does not know how to function any other way.
Its entire handbook is published online
Its whole internal handbook is published for anyone to read: how they hire, what they look for in each interview, how they evaluate their people, how promotions are decided, how disagreements get resolved.
Stop and think about what that means if you want to apply: you can literally read how you are going to be evaluated before you get evaluated. What they ask, what they score, what they value. We do not know of any other large company in the world where you can do that. If you apply to GitLab without having read their handbook, you are throwing away the biggest edge a hiring process will ever give you.
The catch
They adjust pay based on where you live. To be clear, it pays well, but the same role does not pay the same everywhere. And that leads directly into the number one spot.
Number 1 — Automattic: they pay based on your skills, not where you live
They are the company behind WordPress, meaning behind a huge share of all the websites that exist today. They have been fully remote since long before it became trendy, and they have people in 83 countries.
They are in first place because of a rule almost nobody else has, and it is the single most important sentence in this whole article: they pay based on your skills, not based on where you live.
Why this is a bigger deal than it sounds
At almost every company, including the one in second place, if you do the exact same job from an expensive city or from a small town, you get paid differently. Not here. The same role pays the same no matter where you are. If you live somewhere with a low cost of living, that is not a small difference: it completely changes what that salary means for your life.
A hiring process unlike anything else on this list
The first interview is written, over chat, not a video call. And afterward, instead of piling on more interviews, they have you do a real paid work trial of up to twenty hours.
This is great for two kinds of people: for anyone who gets nervous in interviews and freezes up even when they know the job perfectly well, and for anyone without a shiny résumé who genuinely knows how to do the work, because here what gets judged is your actual work, not how well you can sell yourself in a thirty-minute call.
The catch
Precisely because they pay the same worldwide and the process is so open, they get applications from all 83 countries they operate in. It is the hardest of the six purely due to competition. But it is also the only one where where you live does not work against you, which is why it is in first place.
One last note before you apply
Openings at these companies change every week, so always check their official careers page for what is available today.
And if what you are after is earning money on your own instead of under a contract, you have every platform we test and verify in the complete directory, with what each really pays, how to cash out, and the downsides.
